About Us

The marina dates back to 1952, when it was called Bay Haven Marina. It's name changed a few times before Tom DenHerder took full ownership and changed the name to Yacht Basin Marina in 2006. Many improvements have been made over the years. The in/out building was built, docks were rebuilt, and the gazebo and playground were added in the 1990's. The trend continued in the early 2000's, when a new bathhouse and pool were built, new finger piers were installed, and 38,000 square feet of indoor storage were constructed. The uniqueness of Yacht Basin is that as it grew it offered customers with everything they need for their summer recreation right on property. The marina grew into a more resort-like atmosphere with the construction of Yacht Basin Plaza, "the heart of the marina property." The 48,000 sq. ft. building houses the marina offices, the ship's store, Yacht Basin Conference Center, a day spa & salon, party store, many boat sales and The Staterooms, vacation rentals which opened in 2012. In 2017 Yacht Basin constructed an additional 28,800 sq. ft. building expanding the In/Out and heated storage. Lolo's Bar & Grill joined the marina in 2019 as a dockside restaurant followed by the The Breakfast Joint in 2020 both overlooking the marina. The marina boasts 371 Slips and 200 In/Out Racks. 

Today, Yacht Basin Marina's day to day operations have been passed down to son, Matt Den Herder and son-in-law,  Phil Menerick.

Yacht Basin Marina has also been apart of the Michigan Clean Marina Program since 2004.
